Research - 4/5 Music Videos

The fourth music video i have chosen is Craig David - 7 Days
This song has another romantic narrative

The video starts off by Craig getting his haircut. He needs to look good for the girl he is talking about in the video. It has a reverse stereotype as usually females want to look good for boys but in this situation Craig wants to look good for the girl.

As the video continues Craig walks past a girl in the subway and the lyrics go:

"As I walked through the subway
it must have been about quarter past three
In front of me
stood a beautiful honey with a beautiful body
She asked me for the time
I said it'd cost her her name
a six digit number & a date with me tomorrow at nine"

This here shows that Craig has seen a girl that he likes and is very cheeky  and flirtatious towards her fitting in with the male stereotypes. Rhyming "time and nine" keeps the beat of the song going and the flow continues.

The chorus comes around:
"I met this girl on Monday
took her for a drink on Tuesday
we were making love by Wednesday
and on Thursday & Friday & Saturday we chilled on Sunday"

Craig being the flirtatious man in the heat of the moment has succeeded in meeting up with the girl he met at the subway and went on to tell a story of their week.

This shot here shows Craig and the girl getting on very well this shot here links to the following lyrics very well:
"Since I met this special lady
ooh yeah
I can't get her of my mind
She's one of a kind."

The third music video I have chosen is Lily Allen - Not Fair
This song has a strange romantic narrative to it

At the start of the music video we see an American man in Red boots and a red blazer walking to a door. The colour red symbolises love. Lily Allen talks about a man she likes in this music video so the mans blazer and shoes could link to the song. The red clothing could also represent blood, the relationship could be turning for the worst and blood may be spilled, another link.

In this shot we can see Lily at the front and her and two men in the shadows. These shadows could represent the mysterious personality of the man that she is talking about in the song, we dont know much about him and we never will. This shot could also mean that Lily wears the trousers in the relationship as she is at the front and the mysterious men in the shadows are lurking in the back.

The following lyrics have a big meaning

"I look into your eyes
I want to get to know you
And then you make this noise
And it's apparent it's all over

It's not fair
And I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean
I think you're really mean"

This here shows that Lily really likes the man when she says "I look into your eyes, i want to get to know you, and then you make this noise and its apparent its all over." We can get a feel that Lily isn't happy with the sexual side of their relationship "And then you make this noise and its apparent its all over" This puts Lily in a huge Dilemma as she really like the man personally but she isn't satisfied physically thats why she says "its not fair."

Research - 2/5 Music Videos

The song i have chosen is Girls Like - Tinie Tempah
This song has a narrative.

Girls Like is set in a town in Jamaica, we can already get a feel and a vibe before the music has started due to the location. At the start of the video we see a shot of Tinie walking out from the dark into the light, this camera shot got portray Tinie's life as he started with nothing but has moved forward in life with his previous hit songs such as "pass out." The start of the song is relatable to many people as they can empathise with Tinie as they have also started out with nothing but worked hard and made a name for themselves.

Tinie says "Yeah, Roley on the wrist, that's me, me. Man of the year, I'm fleeky. Heard a couple man wanna be me. Them man can't be TT" These lyrics suggest that Tinie is very important, bragging about his "Roley"(Rolex Watch) and also being man of the year winning a MOBO award. Interestingly at the moment of these lyrics we see a camera shot that shows Tinie at the front being followed by a group of girls, he's the centre of attention.

The editing fits well with the narrative of the music video. The video usually has a consistent amount of shots between Tinie himself and girls dancing which fits well with the name of the music video "Girls Like" The editing is very jumpy and inconsistent which is completely different to the beat as the beat is very consistent throughout the music video.
