Andrew Goodwin Theory

Music videos will have representations of the genre the song is. For example a grime song may see young males around the streets in large groups dressed in: nike, north face, EA7. With a bottle of Hennesy in their hand, whilst doing gang signs. The music videos could take place around areas such as local neighbourhoods or a block of flats.

There is a relationship between the music and the camerawork. For example in grime music lyrics may be "gang, gang, gang." The visuals would most likely be a group of boys as the lyrics are referring to a gang.

There are a links to TV, radio and other information sources in videos. For example in the song maad city the lyrics go "If Pirus and Crips all got along they'd probably gun me down by the end of this song"

This here shows us that these lyrics are using real life events to tell their song through a narrative.

Pirus and Crips are both gangs in America that have a fierce rivalry that tracks back to the mid 1900's.
