Difference between mainstream and independent label

Independent record label - These are labels that operate without funding outside major record labels.

Mainstream record label - Is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music video. An example of mainstream record labels are: Sony, Universal, EMI.

My chosen song Chelsea Dagger used a mainstream label called "Island Records." Island records is a mainstream record label.

Contracts: There are contractual differences between the different types of the labels. Major labels keep the majority of the money made from the music video, whereas independent record labels pay out a little to their artists.

Artists may want to use independent labels as they can maximise their income rather than choosing the mainstream record labels.
